Alliance Background:
The Alliance for Climate Protection, founded by Al Gore in 2006, is a single-purpose organization committed to igniting public action that will help solve the climate crisis. While public awareness of climate problem is now high, a sense of urgency and solvability remain alarmingly low. The Alliance’s recently launched We Campaign will bring cultural and political shifts that dramatically alter US and international environmental policy by 2010. Paid advertising, grassroots partnerships, online and offline organizing, and media outreach will combine to create a movement of 10 million citizens and a tipping point that changes the world.
Grassroots & Community Partnerships Team Summary:
The Alliance Community Partnerships & Grassroots program works with our branded media campaign to mobilize the public and is linked closely with a dynamic and interactive online team. We develop partnerships with established membership organizations that people already trust and we reach out directly to citizens where they work, live, pray, and play.
Position Summary / Deputy Director for Community Partnerships:
The Deputy Director for Community Partnerships will work primarily on building formal working relationships with organizations that can expand the Alliance’s reach and grow its membership. The goal is to find organizations that reach into as well as beyond traditional environmental groups and that span the cultural, political, and ideological spectrum. The position reports to the Director of Alliances & Grassroots, a senior staff member of the Alliance.
Position Summary:
Deputy Director, Partnerships and Grassroots leads a portfolio of key partnerships and grassroots programs while working closely with the Director to provide strategic leadership to the Partnerships and Grassroots team.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Work closely with Director of Partnerships and Grassroots to develop and execute partnerships and grassroots strategies on national scale
- Manage portfolio of Alliance partnerships from start to finish, including sourcing, building relationships, crafting agreements, and managing detailed execution and reporting
- Work closely with online, media, solutions, and other internal teams to ensure robust and consistent campaign integration
Helpful Skills & Experience
- 6+ years professional experience in business management, marketing, and partnership-building; some grassroots organizing and advocacy experience
- Experience marketing and communicating to mass audiences
- College degree preferred; MBA valued
- Varied experiences in different regions of the country or with diverse consumer/voter groups
- Demonstrated ability to work with those who do not always share your cultural, political, or ideological views
- Strong understanding of online mobilization
- Strong strategic thinker with flawless execution skills and attention to detail
- Ability to produce under tight deadlines and work well in a nimble, quick-paced environment
- Excellent written, oral, and project management skills
- Maintain professionalism and uphold high standards of respect for colleagues, partners of all backgrounds

The Deputy Director for Grassroots will work primarily on individual citizen recruitment, activation, and message delivery. All the tools of traditional grassroots organizing and corporate retail consumer sales will be on the table to serve the twin goals of moving public opinion and recruiting 10 million citizens to the movement. The position reports to the Director of Alliances & Grassroots, a senior staff member of the Alliance.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Work closely with Director of Partnerships and Grassroots to develop and execute retail/grassroots strategies on a national scale
- Provide detailed planning, execution, and reporting of grassroots programs
- Work closely with online, media, solutions, and other internal teams to ensure robust and consistent campaign integration; work with staff, interns, and outside consultants or vendors
Helpful Skills & Experience
- 6+ years professional experience in corporate retail sales, political campaign field work, or interest group grassroots organizing
- An understanding of targeting and list management; an understanding of how to use voter or consumer databases (no technical certification required)
- College degree preferred but not required
- Varied experiences in different regions of the country or with diverse consumer/voter groups
- Demonstrated ability to work with those who do not always share your cultural, political, or ideological views
- Strong understanding of online mobilization
- Strong strategic thinker with flawless execution skills and attention to detail
- Ability to produce under tight deadlines and work well in a nimble, quick-paced environment
- Excellent written, oral, and project management skills
- Maintain professionalism and uphold high standards of respect for colleagues, partners of all backgrounds
