Jill Habig

Jill Habig is Special Assistant Attorney General to California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris. As a member of the office’s senior staff, she advises the Attorney General on key legal and policy issues, including healthcare, education, and civil rights. She led the creation and launch of the Attorney General’s Bureau of Children’s Justice and oversees its work to enforce the rights of California children.
Jill was previously a Lecturer in Law at Yale Law School and Affirmative Litigation Fellow at the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office, where she worked on the landmark trial challenging Proposition 8. She was a law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Edward Chen and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Dorothy Nelson. Jill graduated from Georgetown University and Yale Law School. Her conversion from Midwesterner to Oaklander began at Mills College, where she first became politically active.
Jill’s first career was in classical ballet. She is an enthusiastically mediocre runner, rabid Warriors fan, and lifelong Girl Scout. Her mother, Nancy, was the first woman elected to the Jasper, Indiana School Board, knocking doors with 2-year-old Jill in tow. Jill is passionate about promoting women and girls’ rights and closing the opportunity gap for underserved Californians.
