FAQ's About Applying to the Emerge California Program

1) What does the application process consist of? Once Emerge receives applications, we will review completed packets and select finalists for the Program.  Finalist will be invited to interview with Emerge, usually during the first weekend in November (after the elections).  From these interviews, the new Emerge Program Members will be selected.

2) Will there be other opportunities for me to learn more about the Emerge Program before the application deadline?  Emerge holds several informational sessions in various Bay Area counties, usually throughout the month of August, where you'll hear more about the Program in greater detail and get a chance to meet and speak with Program Alumnae.  The dates, times, and locations of the info sessions are often posted on the Emerge California website after the first week in August.

3) What if I don't have any political experience?
Emerge understands that each woman that comes to the Program does so from a different vantage point, and thus we seek women who have evidence of political leadership experience or the potential to develop that leadership.

4) When will I be notified of a decision? Interview finalists are usually notified during the second or third week of October. The new Program Members are then selected and announced during the second or third week of November, prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.

5) What kind of success rate does the Emerge California Program have? Emerge has enjoyed tremendous success! Since being launched in 2002, Emerge California has trained 200 women to run for political office.  Half of these women have already run, and of those who have run, half have won their races!  We've also had more than 80 appointments to Boards and Commissions and we are very proud that 50% of our Alumni and Program Members are women of color.

The deadline to submit all application materials is usually the second to the last week in September.
