Kate Karpilow, Chair

Kate Karpilow is the Executive Director of the California Center for Research on Women and Families (CCRWF), a program of the Public Health Institute. For over 25 years, Ms. Karpilow has managed policy projects and conducted research in the areas of women's health, working families, child welfare, welfare reform, child care, and other policy issues.

Anna Binder, Vice Chair

Anna Binder joined the Emerge California board in December of 2012. She has spent most of her career in human resources and business development roles at technology start-ups. Most recently she was the VP of Client Services and Human Resources at Readyforce, where college students launch careers. @annaebinder

Amber Maltbie, Secretary

Amber Maltbie is a political attorney with Nossaman, LLP, specializing in campaign finance compliance and disclosure, election administration, and governmental ethics. Amber also specializes in the intersection between U.S. and international election law, gender issues, and women's political participation.

Linda Pfatteicher, Treasurer

A specialist in international corporate tax, Ms. Pfatteicher focuses on tax and operational structuring, and US and foreign tax compliance, as well as large-scale cross-border mergers and acquisitions.

Whitney Davis-Houston
Attorney at Law, Law Offices of Whitney Davis-Houston

Whitney Davis-Houston recently launched her own practice specializing in small business and entertainment transactions. Her clients include producers and production companies, as well as small business concerns.

Sandra Fluke
California State Director, Voices for Progress

Although best known for her advocacy for gender equality and reproductive justice, for the last decade, Sandra Fluke has devoted her career to public interest advocacy for numerous social justice concerns, such as LGBTQ rights, worker rights, economic justice, immigrant rights, and international human rights, including focusing on the impact to communities of color.

Hon. Wendy Greuel
Former Los Angeles City Controller

A working mom and lifelong Angeleno, Wendy attended LA public schools and graduated from UCLA. Wendy started her career in public service working for her mentor, former Mayor Tom Bradley, where for ten years she worked on a wide range of public policy issues including child care, senior care homelessness, housing, public health and education.

Hon. Matt Haney
Director of Policy, Rebuild the Dream

Matt serves as an elected School Board Member and Vice-President of the San Francisco Unified School District Board of Education, where he is responsible for determining policy, budget, curriculum, educational goals and standards for all pre K-12 public schools in San Francisco.

Hala Hijazi
Manager, Strategic Planning, City and County of San Francisco

Hala K. Hijazi has over 15 years of management experience with the City and County of San Francisco, specializing in economic public policies and programs development and implementation.

Courtney La Bau

Courtney currently is a consultant, speaker, and published author on a variety of topics, including Middle East issues (specifically Egypt), ISIS, countering violent extremism, counter terrorism, and women in politics. Currently she is working with the Los Angeles Police Department’s counter terrorism unit on strategic initiatives to tackle extremism and foster relationships within the community. Courtney is also on the board of directors for the Quilliam Foundation, a counter terrorism think tank based in London, which challenges extremist narratives. Through this role, she has authored several papers, and is very active in the local community building bridges between Muslim communities and other ethnic groups and various organizations.

Hon. Susan Rose
Former Santa Barbara County Board Supervisor

During her more than 30 years experience in public administration, education and community activism, Susan Rose has been committed to the advancement of women, workplace issues and civil rights. She served two 4-year terms on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors during which she led efforts to create initiatives for affordable housing and homelessness, to improve the quality of life for women and families, and to ensure the environmental health of her community.

Naomi Seligman, President of Seligman Consulting, has built her career on transforming talented people and organizations into powerhouses of influence. Her hard-hitting strategies have consistently put her clients on the map over the past 20 years, in a career spanning both Coasts and the very different worlds of Washington D.C. and Hollywood.

Shawn VanDiver
Chief Operating Officer, Three Wise Men Foundation

Shawn VanDiver was born in Springfield, Illinois and moved to sunny California at the age of 3. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served for just over 12 years. He served aboard the ships USS Thach and USS Chancellorsville as well as at several shore commands.
